Increase Fibre and Cut Stroke Risk

A high fibre diet does more than keep you regular – for every 7grams increase of roughage a day, your risk of a first time stoke falls by 7%, a new study has found.

Leeds University researchers say this extra few grams can be found in 1 serving of wholemeal pasta and 2 servings of fruit or vegetables.

“Increasing your fibre intake doesn’t necessarily mean wholesale change to your diet. It might mean switching from white bread to wholemeal, or from cornflakes to bran flakes”, says lead researcher Dr Victoria Burley. Australia’s recommended daily fibre intake is 30grams.
